Meet Carson City Hospital's Breast Health Navigator Andrea Russell, R.N., who you may recognize from her billboard showcased on US-27 heading north from Lansing. She's pictured here with the hospital's new state-of-the-art digital mammography system and Breast Imaging Coordinator Ora Darling, RT(R)(M)(CT)(MR).
Together, Andrea and Ora are part of the Carson City Hospital Breast Health Team here to help you "Fight Like A Girl" to be in charge of your own breast health starting with our hospital's state-of-the-art digital mammography.
As members of the Breast Health Team, Andrea and Ora will focus on everything from patient care to breast health awareness. They will work for you to make sure your breast health journey is as stress-free and uncomplicated for you as possible contacting physicians and other health care providers to ensure that all recommended follow-up, including biopsies, are scheduled promptly. Their goal is to provide assistance and support in every way possible.
The pink "Fight Like A Girl" t-shirts you see in the photographs are available for sale through the hospital for $20 each; funds raised go the Carson City Hospital Breast Cancer Fund to provide comfort items to breast-cancer patients. Sweatshirts are also available, as well as black "Fight FOR Your Girl" t-shirts for men. Children's sizes are also available. Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 21, 2010 for the first annual Carson City Hospital "Pink-Ribbon Affair," a fashion show and evening of hors d'oeuvres and music to be held in the hospital's elegant new lobby.
Breast Self-Exams
Andrea also is a Certified MammaCare Breast Self-Examination (BSE) Instructor. MammaCare is the recognized standard for teaching and performing manual breast examination throughout the world. As a Certified MammaCare BSE Instructor, Andrea is authorized to teach MammaCare to the general public and patients, as well as interested health-care professionals.
