Home care is a diverse and dynamic service ... “That’s something that many people are surprised to learn,” said Sue Kelley, R.N., B.S.N., Carson Home Care Manager. “We don’t just serve the elderly population. We serve patients from birth until death, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Weekends and holidays.”
That’s a comforting feeling for those who need the services of Carson Home Care, services that include:
Carson Home Care also partners with Sparrow Hospice Services to transition patients with terminal diseases.
“We have a truly dedicated team of nurses and aides,” said Kelley. “We have, in addition to our office staff, three full-time RNs, one full-time aide, one part-time aide, one physical therapy assistant, and a part-time social worker. We also offer speech therapy and occupational therapy services.”
2009 was a significant year for Carson Home Care. August marked 25 years of serving the local community. And Sue Kelley has been there since the beginning. “R.N. Rita Kaminski-Godfrey started the program and saw our first patient in August 1984,” said Kelley. “She hired me in September of that year as the first nurse in the program.” And in October 1984, current staff member Rose Kohagen was hired as the first home health aide.
“Many things have changed over the years, but one thing that has stayed the same is our focus on our goals to care for our patients,” said Kelley, “and the fact that our service area has stayed the same – a 40-mile radius around Carson City, basically.”
Originally, the department was called “SeCure Care” until the name was changed to “Carson Home Care” in June 2000. The program served between 50 and 100.
