Carson City Hospital's Radiology Department offers convenient hours and a wide range of imaging services ranging from 64-slice CT scans, cardiac CT, MRIs, X-rays, Ultrasound imaging, digital mammography, cardiac CT, and nuclear medicine.
Digital mammography technology at Carson City Hospital
Carson City Hospital has expanded its health and wellness services available to women with the addition of a new, state-of-the-art digital mammography system.
Although nearly 40,000 women die from breast cancer each year, more than two million breast cancer survivors are alive in the U.S. today, largely due to early detection. The precision of digital mammography provides patients with the highest quality of care in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.
“Digital mammography will allow me to view the X-ray image more closely, focusing on suspicious or concerning areas,” explained Carson City Hospital’s chief radiologist Donna R. Moyer, D.O. “This technology will enable any radiologist to make immediate decisions about what needs to happen with each patient. Because digital mammography takes less than half the time of traditional film-based exams, images may be reviewed, as each situation allows, while our patient is still in the examination room.”
In conjunction with digital mammography, Carson City Hospital’s Radiology Department is also offering Computer-Aided Detection (CAD). CAD provides a “second read” of the mammogram by a computer. This assists the radiologist in making an accurate diagnosis, much in the same way spell-check is used in word processing.
Donna Moyer, D.O., achieves board certification in cardiac CT
The Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CBCCT) has announced that Donna Ruth Moyer, D.O., of Perrinton, passed the CBCCT certification examination in September 2010. Dr. Moyer is now designated as a “Diplomate of the Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.”
Dr. Moyer is the Chief of Radiology at Carson City Hospital and at Sheridan Community Hospital, as well as the 2009-2010 President of the Michigan Osteopathic Association. She is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Cardiac CT. Dr. Moyer has also been appointed by the American Osteopathic Association to chair the Council on Women’s Health Issues for a one-year term.
Cardiac computerized tomography angiography combines the technology of a conventional CT scan with that of traditional angiography to test for various types of heart disease. This examination is now being offered at Carson City Hospital.
“This new service is of great diagnostic value,” said Dr. Moyer. “We are committed to providing state-of-the-art care in our rural community; this is just another example of that commitment.”
CBCCT is a not-for-profit corporation established in 2007 to develop and administer a practice-based examination for physicians to document their skills and knowledge in the field of cardiovascular computed tomography.
